Whitewood is governed by an elected Town Council consisting of six councilors and a mayor, each is elected for a three year term.  Subcommittees of Council work in the following areas:

The actual governing of the Town follows the rules and regulations outlines by the Acts of the Government of Saskatchewan, particularly "The Urban Municipalities Act, 1984".
